The Race and Ethnicity Variable (DC703) has been categorised utilising a combination of the race and ethnicity variables from the U.S. Census, American Community Survey (ACS) – The Premier Source in the USA.
The ACS survey data from 2005 to 2022 formed the empirical basis for this analysis. To extend the insights into 2023 and 2024, TheDC employed three forecast models and multiple governmental databases, when aggregated, closely align with US census population estimates. The Data Corner projections for 2023 & 2024 are based of >50M records over 17 years.

The data presented in the table (DC703) above delineates a compelling narrative of demographic shifts within the United States. The Hispanic community has seen a notable rise, now comprising 20% of the US population. In contrast, the white population has experienced a proportional decline over two decades, settling at 56% in 2024, which marks an 11 percentage point decrease. The Black population saw a proportional surge in the 2010s, peaking at 12.5% in 2019. Similarly, the Asian demographic has shown a consistent annual increase over the same period. Notably, the Mixed race population—those identifying with two or more races—has seen a striking increase, now representing 5% of the population in 2024, a fourfold increase within nineteen years.
